“Beauty and the Beast” will delight you no matter what your age and it’s coming to the Marian Theatre Guild the first three Saturdays and Sundays of November. This musical, based on the 1991 Disney class film came to life on Broadway in 1994. Its biggest hit song is the enchanting waltz “Beauty and the Beast.”
“The classic tale itself is well-known and appeals to anyone who’s aspired to more than ‘this provincial life’,” said Director David Long of Chicago. “I was happy for the opportunity to direct the show both because it’s a wonderful musical and because I knew Marian Theatre Guild could come through with excellent sets, lighting, costumes, and music. The cast we’ve put together is one that will make audiences happy they came to the show.”
Leading actors are Sheree Wheeler-Gudeman as Belle, Jeremia Souza as Beast, Aaron Duncil as Gaston and Tony Vivacqua as Lumiere the Candlestick. Mrs. Potts is Kay Wagman, and Cogsworth is played by Gary Mion. This giant of a musical has a cast of 34 singers and dancers.
David said that the biggest production number in the show is “Be Our Guest.”
“Not only will the audience see for the first time the full set of costumes for the “enchanted” characters, but they’ll see first-rate choreography by MTG’s Larry Colgan and a chorus full of singing/dancing/smiling dishware,” he said.
“Beauty and the Beast” is the perfect show in which to introduce children to live theatre. And as with anything by Disney, there is not only humor but pathos as well. This is the production for the entire family.
“Sheree who is portraying Belle is a true Disney afficiando, so she’s my go-to person for making sure all details are accurate!” he added.
Come to enjoy this tale as old as time on Saturday evenings Nov. 5, 12, and 19 at 8:15p.m. with 3p.m. matinees on Sundays Nov. 6, 13 and 20. Saturday evening dinner/theatre packages are available and must be reserved. Theatre tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/students.
