Christmas and Advent at First Presbyterian, Valparaiso

Christmas is a time of wonder and revealing. Advent is a time of mystery, and a world seeking healing. This year, First Presbyterian Valparaiso invites you to join us on the journey through the familiar stories of our faith in a series of services, classes, and meditations which can help us to reflect on the Mystery and Wonder of the season.

Wednesdays in Advent, beginning December 1, the church will offer a series of evening self-guided meditations with varied sensory accompaniments for spiritual self-discovery. Each week will focus on the message of the Advent candles: Hope, Joy, Peace and Love.

Activities will include:

a Prayer Wall & hope board for posting prayer requests, concerns, hopes and praises

poetry and scripture readings;

a Meditation Labyrinth;

live and recorded music;

visual artistic inspirations & interpretations, and

weekly self-guided meditations for adults and children

The Advent meditations will run continuously from 5-7 PM and are “Come as you are, come as you are able.”

Friday, December 24 brings two opportunities for Christmas Eve worship including communion, at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, with artists from our congregation and the community leading praise through traditional lessons and carols.
