EMF Concerns at Data Centers (And Mechanical Waves)

     Data Centers pose greater net risks by creating “EMF Vibrations” that degrade the quiet and natural habitat wildlife relies on for food, reproduction, communication, navigation and survival. Furthermore, what most people are ignoring is the fact that there are High and Low Mechanical Waves and there are High and Low EMF Waves, each effecting each other, creating a circular relationship that spirals into an increasingly harmful outcome, creating outcomes well after installation that are extremely difficult to diagnose and rectify.

     Do you remember when cell phones first came out, and they warned men not to keep them in the pockets and women not to keep them close to their bodies. Well, that was an alarming condition caused from EMF Exposure. They have since then changed the technology, but the EMF Damage is still there, nonetheless. They also found that children living near high current wiring had 3 times the increase in cancer rates, particularly leukemia, compared to normal children that avoided EMF Exposure.

    In the context of data centers, noise vibrations (Mechanical Waves) and EMF (Electromagnetic Field) and are not the same, however, they are often found together and can interact with each other sometimes months and years after installation

  • High and Low Noise Vibrations are physical (mechanical) waves that travel through air or building structures. They are caused by moving parts like high-speed cooling fans, HVAC chillers, and backup diesel generators. These vibrations create the constant, low-frequency “hum” often reported by nearby communities.
  • High and Low EMF Vibrations (often referred to as Electromagnetic Interference or EMI) are invisible energy waves produced by electrical current flowing through servers, power cables, and transformers. While EMF itself is not “sound,” it can cause physical vibrations in electronic components—a phenomenon called coil whine—where electromagnetic forces cause coils to physically vibrate and emit a high-pitched noise.

       According to EH Sciences, Wireless RadioFrequency (RF) Radiation and other non-ionizing Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMF) are rapidly increasing forms of environmental pollution.
     EMF effects on INSECTS effects flight, foraging, feeding, memory and mortality.
     EMF effects BIRDS navigation systems, and harm to reproduction. 
     EMF exposure to Trees and Plants effect growth, and cause damage. 
     EMF exposure to Fish, found significant behavioral changes, learning impacts and altered brain osicative status.
     EMF exposure to Mice, Rats, & Rabbits, cause DNA Damage, Cancer, and low birth weight.
     EMF exposure to Amphibians, altered behavior, growth, and higher mortality rate.

     One hundred and eighty five papers
 (including reviews) on the effects of EMF on insects, and 145 studies on EMF effects on wildlife, have been published since 1980 (Figure 2). There is probably a lack of awareness for biological effects of EMF in general, since it is not a part of most university curricula and requires knowledge in multiple fields. In addition, the field of bioelectromagnetics is underfinanced and considered controversial.
