Different Types of Tiling for Your Home

Whether you’re remodeling your bathroom, kitchen, or updating a floor, tiles are a great option. There are so many different types of tiling for your home that it’s important to do some research on each type before making a final decision. Check out this breakdown of each type of tile and what it’s best for.

Ceramic tile

Ceramic tile is one of the most common tiles used in residential settings because of its versatility. It is very durable and is best used in kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways, although it’s not typically used in flooring.

Porcelain tile

Porcelain tile is another common tile used in the home. This one is used predominantly for bathrooms and outdoor areas. Porcelain doesn’t fade, crack, or freeze, so it is very weather resistant. It is also a great option for flooring in areas such as entryways and laundry rooms.

Glass tile

Glass tiles are very stain resistant, so they are popular for kitchen backsplashes and lining fireplaces. The drawback of glass tiles is that they are prone to chipping.

Mosaic tile

White mosaic tile can upgrade the look of kitchens, bathrooms, and even pool areas. Mosaics leave room for different designs and are best paired with other types of tile to provide refuge from intense designs. Mosaic tiles are used in the compilation of designs, shapes, and intricate styles.

Cement tile

Cement tile is another versatile type of tile. They are challenging to maintain but very long-lasting. They are best used in low-traffic areas because of the maintenance they require.

Marble tile

Marble tile is one of the more expensive tiles, but it does add elegance to rooms. It’s best for kitchens and bathrooms. It is not recommended to put marble on floors in high foot-traffic areas because it is prone to scratches.

Granite tile

Granite is a type of natural stone. It is best used for laundry rooms, bathrooms, and flooring because it is lower cost yet provides an upscale look.

Limestone tile

While known to be difficult and finicky to clean, limestone tiles are impressive design features in most spaces within a home and even work well in outdoor settings. They are another type of natural stone tile.

Travertine tile

This is another type of natural stone tile that comes in plenty of natural hues. It is best used for wall tiling rather than floor tiling because of its susceptibility to stains.

Quarry tile

Quarry tile is one of the strongest tiles and is best used for flooring and bathrooms. It isn’t recommended for backsplashes in kitchens because it is not stain resistant. Quarry tile is made up of many different materials that are ground together and baked at an extremely high temperature.
