What was experienced as a “Soft Opening” in March of 2021 is continuing to change and grow to serve the Merrillville Community with a multi-use facility that serves more than just sports. Talk about a conglomeration of a multitude of organizations, look no further than the Dean and Barbara White Community Center in Merrillville, Indiana.
Hundreds came together to put their efforts into this wonderful building as part of the Merrillville Parks program.
It opened in March 2021, paying homage to the Y&W outdoor theater which once was there. A feasibility study by community members drove this and other Park Projects. A special thanks to all the sponsors.
Facility Director, Tarrance Price was pleased to speak with Vision Quest and PanoramNOW about all the services this facility. “I would like the people of Merrillville to be aware that the facility is a work in progress. We are constantly changing and adding new items to meet the needs of the community. We ask that you be patient as we go through this growing stages.”
Inside patrons will find: 3 full court basketball courts where concerts can also be held to accommodate 1,500 spectators or fans.
For general population there is a fitness center, indoor walking path, a Rock Climbing wall, teen and youth rooms, Concession stand and union lounge. Flex rooms are available for Birthday Parties, Bridal Showers, smaller Business Meetings, and Family Reunions.
The Event Center is available for weddings, Conventions, concerts and Expos.
