Birding Festival

Indiana Dunes Birding Festival Keynote Dinner May 19

Celebrate the migration of birdlife through the Indiana Dunes region this May  2020 at the fourth annual Indiana Dunes Birding Festival.  The festival is a partnership with the state’s major environmental groups highlighting the Indiana Dunes area’s rich biodiversity and bird watching opportunities to create a positive impact on the economic, conservation, and environmental education for visitors and residents of the Indiana Dunes region.  The event is being organized by the Indiana Audubon Society and includes both the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Dunes State Park as site hosts.

While many of the four-day festival events are booking fast, there are still spots available at the Saturday night keynote dinner, silent auction, and presentation.  The Saturday night keynote speaker is Greg Miller, whose real life was portrayed in the Hollywood movie, “The Big Year.”  Greg will speak about his time on the movie set as a paid bird consultant and how anyone can do their own big year in search of birds.  The dinner takes place at the Duneland Falls Banquet Center.

Four-day registration is available for the entire event, or participants can register for the keynote dinner only online.  Registration and program information can be found at

Over twenty partners have come together to make the festival a reality.  Additional signature sponsors include, Tropical Birding Tours, First State Bank of Porter, Chesterton Feed and Garden, Northwest Migratory Bird Association, Friends of Indiana Dunes, Dunes National Park Association, and Indiana Dunes Tourism.

In addition to the festival website, more information can be obtained at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, located at 1215 N. State Road 49, just south of the intersection of 49 and US 20 in Porter, Indiana.  Interested participants can also contact the information desk at 219-395-1882 or the Indiana Audubon Society at 219-928-6905.
