“New in 2017: Music Classes! Beatniks on Conkey is offering not just any music class, either: ‘Band of Beatniks’ is the only multi-instrument music class for adults in Northwest Indiana. Playing as a group is not only a great way to strengthen your skills and build confidence in your playing, it’s just plain fun– without the stress of recitals! No matter what instrument you play, we have a space for you in the band. “But I don’t play an instrument,” you say. No problem! We welcome everyone who is interested in learning how to play, even if you’re just starting out. Rhythm instruments are provided during class, and we welcome all singers. Classes are $15 per person and band members go home with their own lyric and chord sheets. Standard notation is also provided for concert, B-flat and alto instruments. Beatniks is having another Open Mic on January 20, 2017. Marc and Krystal Quaglaria are hosting and the cost to come and listen is $5.00, performers get in free. Beatniks on Conkey proudly announce the auditions for “A Benefit Performance of the Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler. Auditions will be held at Beatniks on January 8, 2017 at 4 to 6pm. Cold readings from the script, all are welcome. “A Benefit Performance of the Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler will show Friday and Saturday, February 24, 25, at 8pm and Sunday February 26 at 2pm, without intermission. The cost of admission is $25.00, refreshments will be available before the show. There will be an auction immediately after the show. Proceeds from the show and auction go to the Haven House, a domestic abuse shelter, located in Hammond, Indiana. A portion of the ticket sales also goes to the VDay Foundation, a women’s advocacy group, founded by Eve Ensler.
