Hammond Indiana’s American Legion Post 168 and Veterans View’s Radio Show presented a very special ceremony at the corner of Lyman and Douglas where the Monon and Erie Lackawanna bike trails intersect. The unveiling of a Tribute to Our Troops All Branches All Wars Future Exhibit.
The ceremony’s organizer 5 time Commander of Post 168, Ernest “Ernie” Dillon, deserves all the credit for engineering, creating,'” and facilitating this whole event. Ernie served in the Air Force Vietnam War in South America.
He is the most dedicated veteran and Hammond’s pride and joy. Ernie secured grants, pulled weeds, laid bricks, and designed blue prints all while battling Uncle Arthur (Arthritis). That’s a hard war to win. “We are all inclusive! We want everyone who served including the Tuskegee Airman and the Buffalo Soldiers to be apart of this exhibit.”
Plans to build the memorial exhibit and outdoor museum are underway. “My father served in the Marines and told me he served so I didn’t have to.” said Hammond’s 5th District Councilman Dave Woerpal. “With the election just passing I believe politicians can learn from our military heroes and fallen soldiers,” said Barry Tyler Jr . Hammond’s City Councilman of 3rd District. The ceremony had various speakers including city officials and military. The closing included a 21 gun salute. “When they shot those guns in the air scared all the cholesterol out of me,” said PanoramaNow reporter Mother Diva.
Special Awards were given to the event sponsors Home Depot of Hammond and Schererville Indiana.
Post 168 is open Friday and Saturday 4pm to 10pm and is available for rental space. Free Karaoke is every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the Month. They are located at 6849 Columbia Ave, Hammond Indiana 46324, Feel free to drop off donations or mail them in and Make Check or Money order out to American Legion Post 168.

For a smaller population than most places in Northwest Indiana, the City of Whiting (Lake County) has lots to do. Home of the infamous Pierogi Fest, Whiting Indiana has an enhanced the quality of life that should be envied by everyone. Whiting has an Easter parade, a July 4th parade, a Pierogi Fest parade and the Holiday Illuminated parade. Families from the East Side, South Chicago, and Hammond flock to Downtown Whiting on the weekends, cause there’s always something going on, not to mention the many downtown restaurants and shops.
