A Gorgeous Spectacle in Goodman’s “Another Word for Beauty”

*** Recommended *** There are a lot of words to describe “Another Word for Beauty”, the Goodman’s new production about the strangest beauty contest ever.  I’ve struggled to write this review because I couldn’t seem to come up with the right combination of those words – interesting, beautiful, flawed, tragic – never could figure it out.  I’m still not sure if I liked “Another Word for Beauty”, but it sure has a strong message.  I give it 3 ½ Spotlights.

“Another Word for Beauty” runs through February 21st in the Goodman Theatre’s Albert Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn, Chicago.  Running time is 2 hours, 30 minutes including an intermission.  Performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm; Fridays at 8:00; Saturdays at 2:00 and 8:00; and Sundays at 2:00.  Tickets range from $25-$75.  Parking is available at a slightly reduced rate in the Government Center Garage (with a validation) or you can take advantage of the new online payment option: payment in advance is just $16.00.  FYI (312) 443-3800 or www.goodmantheatre.org.
