25 More Years of Summer with the Symphony

It’s time to enjoy what many people near and far consider some of the most entertaining evenings that Whiting has to offer each year, the Summer with the Symphony concerts at the Whiting Pavilion.   The Whiting Park Festival Orchestra (WPFO) is conducted by Maestro Robert Vodnoy and the idea of what has become our own Regional Ravinia on Lake Michigan was originally that of Marty Dybel who has managed the Concerts for over 20 years.

Hopefully you didn’t miss the opening concert “Pierogi & Mascots” on July 13 which was sponsored by the WR Community Improvement Fund.

If you did, make sure to grab your cooler and your folding chair and head out on August 3rd for the next WPFO concert entitled “Get Happy.  This concert celebrates the centenary of the birth of the great singer, Judy Garland with singer Joan Ellison as vocalist. This concert sponsored by Whiting Community Improvement, Peoples Bank, Centier Bank, Arts Alive!, G Ronald & Peg Morris.

An all-new concert on August 17th, 2019 with  “Russian NIght.” Hear pianist “Wei Luo,” perform special selections.  There are no truer words and we’re so excited to share our new music with everyone!” This concert is sponsored by Baran Funeral Home, Air One, and Herrera Towing.

And on September 1st the WPFO concludes with  “America the Beautiful” which will be an incredible musical celebration with Trumpeter Aaron Romm. This last concert is sponsored by BP Whiting Business Unit.

This year’s concerts come to you with additional financial support provided by grants from Art Works, National Endowment for the Arts, Indiana Arts Commission and South Shore Arts.

All concerts begin at 7:30p.m. and are free to the public but perhaps you’d like to show your support by becoming a patron for the entire season for $25 or for a family subscription at $75.  Patrons receive access to refreshments at the Patron Tent, free parking and seating in the special area closest to the pavilion.  For more information on available Patron Plans, please call the Chamber at 659-0292.
